What is a brake service?
A brake service is a service provided by a professional mechanic, during which they’ll test, repair and if necessary replace your brakes.

How will my brakes be checked during servicing?
The first step will be an initial inspection of the brakes. Every aspect of the brakes will be tested to ensure that they’re working as they should, including the hand brake, brake lights and brake pedal.
Next, the mechanic will carry out a check on the rotors. They’ll be looking out for any damage, deterioration or discolouration. Finally, the calliper mounts and callipers will be checked to make sure that they haven’t worn down.
If any issues are noticed, these will be flagged with the owner of the vehicle. From there, repairs can be made to get the brakes back to full working capacity.

How often should I get my brakes serviced?
It’s highly recommended that you book your vehicle in for regular brakes services, but just how regular this is will depend on factors such as what car you have. For example, Mazda recommends that you book your Mazda in for a brake service every 18,000 miles, but in general, once a year is a good benchmark. It’s worth mentioning though that if you live in an area where road salt is used regularly, you might want to book in more regularly, as road salt can deteriorate your brakes.
How much does a brake service cost?
This will depend largely upon what issues are turned up, and how much those repairs cost. A brakes service can range anywhere from £100 for a simple service, up to over £1,000 if major issues are flagged and the brakes need to be completely replaced. However, that is a worst case scenario.
